Seminar and Workshop

To ensure the safety of Alberta’s dams, the annual Dam Safety Seminar and Workshop provides a forum for building technical capacity, communication, cooperation and collaboration between dam owners, regulators, industry and professionals. The workshops are tailored to professionals involved in implementing dam and canal safety regulation in Alberta, and to young professionals involved in operations and dam safety assessments and evaluations.

Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), in collaboration with the Dam Integrity Advisory Committee hosted the Alberta Dam Safety Seminar in Calgary. In attendance were 110 dam safety professionals. Presentations from the seminar are available below.

Dam Safety Technical Workshop

AEP in partnership with the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) hosted two technical workshops on April 25, 2017. The sessions provided training opportunities for dam safety professionals involved in implementing dam and canal safety regulation in Alberta, with a CDA workshop on Dam Safety Reviews and a second workshop on Operations, Maintenance, Surveillance and Emergency Preparedness. Over 150 people participated in the workshops.

On April 11, 2016, AEP hosted the Alberta Dam Safety Seminar in Calgary to introduce Alberta Dam Safety's new direction and strategy. In attendance were 103 dam safety professionals. Updates from selected stakeholder groups were also delivered. Presentations from the seminar are available below.
