The Crown generally owns the beds and shores of rivers and streams. Some exceptions apply. For more information on these
Rivers and streams are dynamic landscape features that move across their floodplains by depositing sediment and through
undercutting and eroding banks.
This erosion is a natural process and usually occurs slowly over time. As the river moves, so do its natural boundaries.
Sudden avulsive changes in the course of a river or stream (e.g., abrupt changes in a river or stream course due to a flood
event) do not change the location of ownership boundaries.
