A steering group that includes representatives from environmental organizations, First Nations, industry and government
is being asked to revise plans for consulting on policy principles for Alberta’s draft Mineable Oil Sands Strategy (MOSS)
and the draft Fort McMurray Mineable Oil Sands Integrated Resource Management Plan (IRP).
While MOSS describes the broad policy framework that will direct plans and actions within the mineable oil sands area, the
draft integrated resource management plan – which updates the 2002 Fort McMurray-Athabasca Oil Sands Subregional Integrated
Resource Plan - incorporates information on how MOSS would be implemented "on the ground."
The group is to deliver a final report to government by March 31, 2006. That report will help determine how consultation
on policy development for this area moves forward on the draft MOSS and the draft IRP that are being developed by the Alberta
