Warehousing (commercial pesticide storage) of pesticides in Alberta (and across Canada) is a self-regulated industry initiative. The Agrichemical Warehousing Standards
Association (AWSA) is the body that was formed in January of 1997 to manage standards, and is made up of representatives from various sectors (manufacturers, distributors,
warehousers and governments). The objectives of the AWSA are to improve environmental protection, working conditions, and business risk through the establishment
and implementation of warehousing standards.
Warehouses must be re-certified on a two-year cycle. The certification of approved warehouses is conducted by licensed auditors.
