A wide range of products applied to land throughout Alberta affect the chemistry and physical properties of soil. Common agricultural products are fertilizers,
manure and lime, used to enhance the nutrient properties of soil for crop production and/or protection.

Products and compounds from commercial and industrial operations are also applied. Application of sewage sludge from municipal wastewater treatment facilities
and pulp mill biosolids to agricultural land reduce landfill and enhance soil nutrients. Septage (from rural septic tanks) is also applied to agricultural land.
This practice is under review, and management recommendations are being developed. Drilling waste from oil and gas operations can be applied to land, under
