Historical Hydrographic Survey – Bathymetric Maps


This historical map series consists of hydrographic survey – bathymetric printed monochrome maps of select lakes and reservoirs within Alberta.

These maps display the contour depths in a lake or reservoir at the time of capture in a printed wall map format suitable for display purposes. Contours shown are a representation of the lake bottom and their actual location is neither guaranteed nor implied. These maps are not intended for navigational purposes. Information as depicted is subject to change and the Government of Alberta assumes no responsibility for discrepancies at time of use.

This historical map series is now available as a fee free download in Adobe PDF format under the Open Government Licence – Alberta.

These maps display:

  • Alberta Township System (ATS)
  • major hydrographic features
  • bathymetry

Of note, GIS versions of some of this map series are also available from the Alberta Energy Regulator - Alberta Geological Survey - Alberta Lake Bathymetry Data under the Open Government Licence – Alberta.

In addition to the primary provincial base map, this series includes various themes that overlay the primary base map.

Map Coverage and How to View

Thzese maps were produced in various map scales over time; please refer to each map for scale details.

This product can be viewed on a computer, printed or be plotted in part or in whole. To maintain the original map scale when printing the entire product, generally they may be plotted on a plotter that can use paper that is a minimum width of 82cm (32").

Map Series Updates and Samples

This series is not updated and contains a range of publication dates. Refer to the ‘time period of content’ in the *.xml FGDC metadata record provided with the map product download for currency of each map product.
