Watershed Unit PP1

About this Watershed Unit


Watershed Unit PP1 is part of Alberta Fish Management Zone 2 that covers the southeastern corner of the province. This unit runs north to south from just south of the Red Deer River to the Alberta-Montana border. From west to east, this unit generally spans the area starting east of Calgary to the Alberta-Saskatchewan Border.


The fisheries in Watershed Unit PP1 fall under the jurisdiction of Alberta’s Prairies Resource Management Area. Management of fisheries in this watershed unit is locally subdivided as follows:

  • Calgary and Brooks offices oversee fisheries management in a 2,500 square kilometre area, including:
    • Crawling Valley Reservoir
    • Lake Newell
    • Lower Bow River
  • Lethbridge office oversees fisheries management in a 4,400 square kilometre area, including:
    • Lower Oldman and South Saskatchewan Rivers
    • Numerous reservoirs such as Ridge, St. Mary’s Reservoir
