Zone 1: Eastern Slopes

Zone 1 consists of the mountains and foothills that form the 'Eastern Slopes' along the Rocky Mountains from Montana to the Grande Prairie region.

Throughout this zone, creeks flow into larger streams, which in turn form major rivers.

These watersheds, with their alpine and foothills lakes and their clear, cold streams, support numerous trout and mountain whitefish populations, as well as Arctic grayling populations in the north.

How to get there

You can reach the major centres in Zone 1 by travelling all-season highways from Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer and Lethbridge.

Air services make regularly scheduled flights from the Calgary International Airport to Lethbridge.
