There are a number of programs and services aimed at reducing and/or managing greenhouse emissions across all sectors of Alberta's economy.
Regulated facilities under the Specified Gas Emitters Regulation have several options to comply with the province's greenhouse gas emissions
One compliance option is to contribute to the Climate Change and Emissions Management Fund, which is used to invest in initiatives and projects
that support greenhouse gas emission reduction technologies and improve Alberta's ability to adapt to climate change.
Large industrial emitters may also purchase offset credits from other activities that have voluntarily reduced their emissions in Alberta.
Another compliance option for a company is to purchase or use their own banked Emissions Performance Credits. These credits can be generated
by facilities that reduce their emissions intensity below their reduction target.
