Air Quality Modelling

As of August 30, 2013, air quality modelling assessments commencing after this date shall follow the Air Quality Model Guideline dated October 1, 2013.

Please see the following clarification notice regarding the correct interpretation of the requirements for determining the minimum radius to be considered when determining a project’s study area as specified in the Air Quality Model Guideline.

Air Dispersion Modelling

Air dispersion modelling is a method of predicting the ground level concentration of one or more sources of air pollutants.

Ground level ambient concentrations of pollutants are predicted using information such as:

  • Land use (urban/rural)
  • Meteorological data (wind speed, temperature)
  • Pollutant source information (mass emission rate/stack gas temperature/flow rate)
  • Terrain characteristics

Results from this modelling are used to determine if an air pollutant source is in compliance with ambient air quality objectives.

Non-Routine Flaring Management: Modelling Guidance

Air Quality Modelling Mailing List

The department has an automatic emailing system that will distribute air quality modelling related information to those who subscribe to the list. It is anticipated that this email list, along with the department website, will become the main mode by which air quality model users will be informed regarding department policy and model updates.

Subscription to this list is open to all department staff, industry, NGOs and consultants, as well as members of the general public.
